                              Donatello







Donatello, was born in Florence around 1386 and died there in 1466. The powerful expressivity of his art made him the greatest sculptor of the early Renaissance. Masterpieces from the first phases of his career include the vigilant marble saint george.

^ This statue, was executed somewhere around 1416 and was placed in a niche on the north wall of Orsanmichele, a church in florence. the tensed expression of the young face shows its affinity with the ideal of david in the Bargello. the marble height is 214cm.
